FlamesLab - Forest fire testing laboratory

FlamesLab - Forest fire testing laboratory

FlamesLab is located in the Diagonal-Besòs Campus (Building I). It consists of different experimental devices to study multiple aspects of forest fires dynamics. In the laboratory, we characterize fire propagation in porous fuels, combustion velocities, flame temperatures and emissivity and fire energy released.

These tests allow us to calibrate our monitoring and fire behavior prediction systems and our simulations to study fire impact at the wildland-urban interface.

In addition, we study the effect of suppression products: retardants, surfactants, foams, etc. We use a wide range of sensors and measuring devices: thermocouples, heat flux sensors, visible and infrared cameras, scales, heaters, fuel moisture meters, etc.
