Products

As part of its research activities, CERTEC has created the following products:

The Global Wildland–Industrial Interface (WII) Map provides the first global-scale geospatial representation of wildfire–industrial interface exposure, enabling identification of industrial infrastructures potentially at risk worldwide.

Type: Open-access geospatial decision-support tools.

The EU-WUITIPS Map offers spatially explicit identification of wildfire exposure affecting touristic infrastructures across Europe, translating vulnerability modelling frameworks into operational planning tools.

Two advanced wildfire monitoring algorithms based on Meteosat Third Generation Flexible Combined Imager (FCI) data.

  • The Fire Event Tracking (FET) algorithm provides time series of Fire Radiative Power (FRP) and Forward Rate of Spread (FROS) through spatio-temporal clustering of hotspot detections.
  • The FCI-FireDyn algorithm derives fire arrival time maps, rate of spread, and burn area evolution at sub-kilometre resolution.

These tools have been applied retrospectively across the Mediterranean region and are currently running in near-real-time operational mode over Portugal in collaboration with VOST and the Portuguese Civil Protection Agency (ANEPC), demonstrating direct institutional uptake and operational relevance.

Developed within the WUITIPS, project and deposited in the CORA Research Data Repository, TourGuard is a digital tool designed to assess the wildfire vulnerability of tourist infrastructures in high-exposure regions. The system generates a quantitative vulnerability index together with tailored resilience recommendations, supporting evidence-based planning and risk mitigation strategies. TourGuard operationalizes CERTEC’s scientific methodologies into a structured and reproducible assessment framework for tourism-dependent territories.

  • FirePrime App – Wildfire Preparedness and Vulnerability Assessment Tool

Developed within the EU Civil Protection project FIREPRIME, the FirePrime App provides homeowners and communities with a quantitative wildfire vulnerability assessment and tailored resilience recommendations. The application translates advanced wildfire risk modelling methodologies into an operational, user-friendly decision-support tool, enabling citizens to identify vulnerabilities and implement science-based mitigation measures. The app represents a direct transfer of research outcomes into societal impact at European scale.
